The Holidays

We hope everyone had the most wonderful holidays! We are in Colorado for another few hours before we fly home. It was a much needed & SUPER fun & relaxing 2 weeks. John & I are so grateful that we were able to spend this time with our families. There are lots of photos to come of our fun times. Now onto the next year.

What just happen?

Today is the last day of November, which means just 31 more days until the new year...so really what just happen to this year? I the last time I posted was before Halloween so let me think of this last two months. We did dress up for work for that weird holiday as Domino's! I had the relief society craft night {pictures to come}. Sad & glad it will be our last one. Life kept us busy until Thanksgiving. We had a VERY relaxing time. Robert & Steven went to Utah. Jenny & Laura & Ryan & Kayla came to eat dinner at our house. I think we were all falling asleep at the table. Black Friday came & we had to work! All we do is put up the office decor for Christmas. I don't know what it is about Thanksgiving but it always puts me in a relaxing anxious vacation mood. Everything seems like a daze because I am just dreaming about more holiday time with family & VACATION!!! I can't believe we leave in just a few weeks. That about sums it up. Oh I have been working on my photo blog...not really there yet, but take a look around. On Monday I got to do a whole high school wrestling team photo shoot....very interesting. I'll post those pictures soon.

Yummy Fall Food!

Fall is the YUMMIEST time of year. Can't get enough of the spices & warmth in every dish. Here a few must try's for the season. Enjoy!

Whitty Baked Beans
From: Josi Kilpack's latest book {Pumpkin Roll}The book is great by the way!
[i doubled the recipe & it lasted a few days]

1/2 pound diced crisy bacon
1/2 pound ground beef, browned & drained
1 Medium onion, Chopped
1 [15 oz] can butter beans, drained
1 [16 oz] can kidney beans, drained
1 [16 oz] can pork & beans, undrained
2/3 C packed brown sugar
1/2 C ketchup
1 Tbsp prepared mustard
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp Molasses
1/2 to 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Fry bacon, remove from pan, & drain. Add ground beef to the same pan & brown w/ onion.
Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker. Mix well & cook 1 hour on high or 3-4 hours on low. Serves 10 as a side dish or 6 as a meal.

[What i would do differently next time...use real back & beef {we use turkey} & add more variety of beans if i wanted it to go further]

Fudgy Chocolate CHip Toffee Bars
{they taste just as good as they sound}

from a coworker

1/2 C melted butter
2 C graham cracker crumbs
1 8 oz bag toffee bits
1 roll refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough
1 12 oz bag chocolate chips
1 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
1 T butter
1 tsp vanilla extract

Grease 13x9 dish & preheat oven to 350

Have the roll of cookie dough sitting out for around 10 minutes to soften up.

In a medium mising bowl, stir together the butter & 1 /12 C graham crumbs & 3/4 C of toffee bits. Pour mixture into the greased pan & press evenly until mixture covers bottom of pan. Refrigerate for about 15 mins.

In a 2 qt. saucepan, heat the milk, choco chips & the 1 T butter over medium heat. Stir frequently until the chips are melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove the mixture from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Spread the mixture over the graham cracker crumb mixture.

In another medium mixing bown, break up the cookie dough & stir in the remaining 1/2 C graham crumbs until blended. Crumble the mixture evenly over the chocolate layer & the sprinkle the remaining 3/47 C toffee bits on top.

Bake for 25-35 mins or until its golden brown. Cook before cutting.

Has it already been a month? John & I have been so busy, but with what?? General Conference was very nice to stay home & listen to the Prophet and just spend time alone together. His brothers went to Utah to visit friends. We were able to see Harry Potter (last one) in 3-D in the cheap theater with Jenny. Good movies, but glad they are finished. The only bad thing about watching conference at home...we get distracted...see pics below. We also got our first snow fall of the season this week. I didn't get a picture because I was at work while it happened & by the time we came home it was just slush. The weather was rainy & COLD for the next few days until Saturday & today (Sunday)...just BEAUTIFUL! Robert had a friend visit who stayed with us this weekend, so it was nice to have good weather & get out & do things. We all went to a straw maze last night...see pics below. I think John & I are below average b/c the lady said most people get it in 45 mins or less...well with following two little girls who were getting help from the guy on top, we made it in 1 hour & 20 mins! Steven & his friend made it in 30 mins, go figure! I was also able to try out new recipe yesterday that turned out to be a funny story. It's called Pumpkin Pie Cake & I made it first thing Saturday morning before the day got really busy. After I put it in the oven John & I had to go out to the country to pick up some crafts for our upcoming MIDNIGHT MADNESS & on the way we smelled a very fresh stinky skunk & I remembered I forgot to put in the 3 eggs the cake called for! Have any of you ever made a cake without eggs? Surprisingly enough it didn't make a difference because it was really like pie with a crumble cake topping. It tasted really rich & yummy! The boys said the cake smelled like Christmas! We are very anxious for this holiday because we are going home. We have been home for Christmas since 08. The quiet Christmas's are nice, but it will be so much fun to see most of our family. It's our favorite time of the year for a few reasons...for John hockey season started this week (Av's lost their first game last night) and for Colleen putting up the decor & baking. It's really the only time of year I enjoy cooking & baking. Our home teachers came over the other week & said well your putting up your tree in a few weeks huh? It's sad when they know we (I) are Christmas fanatics! Ok I think I covered everything. I am also making a photography blog so I'll put a link up when I am finished. It's been really fun to get into a hobby & not think about work! We hope you all are starting to smell Christmas!

Today is our 4th anniversary. John & I were talking about all the things we've been through so far in our married life & let me tell ya the list just keeps going. That's the best part of it all...the surprises never end! We were laughing with his siblings last night about how the night before our wedding John REALLY learned how emotional I can get...hahaha. It's so fun to look back on it now & how much we didn't know about each other. So here's to a life time more of surprises!

What's on your pocket?

This weekend was a BLAST. We met the Millers & Riley's down in Utah for a few days. We went swimming, played a game in the park, played some card games & ate yummy food! Now the family is up in Idaho getting the three kiddo's left ready for college. Its been so nice being around family. But that's not the main reason I am posting. John said I just HAD to post this story. So we get back home yesterday & ran to the store before his family arrived. We were shopping for a good 30 minutes, then went home. His family pulled in the same time. John walked around the car to hug his mom & she pulled something off his back pocket that had been stuck to it the WHOLE TIME...a pair of colorful underwear belonging to his wife. Yup you guessed it. He had a pair of my panties hanging off his pocket the whole time we where shopping. All he said thought was, OH that's why people were giving me funny looks! So next time you go the store, make sure you check wants hanging off your back pocket.

Rio

For my birthday my work gave me a one night stay at a themed hotel. We went last weekend & had so much fun. We stayed in Rio. It was very relaxing. They had nice music when you walked in...message table...huge open shower...jetty tub...sparkling cider & cheesecake & in the morning we had a Delicious breakfast brought to our door. We never wanted to leave. I told John we he graduates, we should just stay a night in each room, so its like we've traveled all over the world! So if you ever want to vacation in Idaho Falls & spend lots of money for a room...Destinations Inn. I don't' think I could ever spend that money myself, but it was a nice gift from work.

I know we have been moved in for a while now, but here are the pictures. Today we painted the bedroom & kitchen. We are really loving it here. It's still in our same ward & close to campus & work (not that anything is that far away in this town). Also we really haven't decorated, except the kitchen today....don't mind the mess!

International Dance Festival

Every year Rexburg hosts the International Dance Festival. Each time there are about 7-10 countries that participate. This year there was: Columbia, India, Belguim, Russia, China (they have come every year)USA, of course, & another I forget. They do the opening ceremonies at the stadium on campus (& its free) The dances were soo cool, but I didn't get great picutres b/c for some reason they put this big stage in front of the dancers so you can't see them...only if your important & sitting on the stage. Can't wait until next year.

Our life has been BUSY! It seems like we've done nothing, but everything all at the same time. I will post pictures of our new apartment soon & some other things we've done this past month. I was just reading everyone's blog & felt like a GOOBER for never updating ours. We are are getting really excited to see the Miller's in a few weeks. And John will start classes in the Fall. He only has 3 more semester of classes & 1 semester for internship...YA babe! So my goal this weekend is to post pictures GALOR!

Moving

Now we can breath that John's semester has ended!!! Well sort of...we both just got new callings this past month...busy busy...I am now the 2nd Couselor in R.S. & John is the deacon advisor! We really have loved them so far. John's first camp out is on Mon & Tue, which will also be the first time we have ever been apart. I will have plenty to keep me busy though b/c we are moving to a new apartment! It's still in the same ward, just a little more room. It's crazy to think we are actually moving b/c we've lived in our home for so long, but change is good. It's also crazy to see how much stuff we really do have after just 4 years! I am VERY excited to paint my new kitchen, so I need some color ideas, if anyone has some. So this is our kick start to the summer break. This fall will also be John's first semester NOT taking classes since Jan 08. He is such a hard worker & I am happy he is taking a little break. We are also very excited for John's 3 siblings to be up here for school in the fall!!! And that brings us back to Christmas, which I can't wait to decorate my new home with all the twinkle! Wow is this year already over...I feel like it is. Ok now I am going to put on Christmas music & continue packing.

A Quarter of a Century

Last Sunday John & I spent (trying) to spoil the other person. Every so often my birthday falls on Father's day, as it did this year. It was soo much fun. I was able to make him fluffy pancakes with lick you lips buttermilk syrup! (see recipe below). Then we went to church, came home & it was John's turn to cook for dinner! After dinner we went for a walk in the gardens on campus. We had a great day together. So now onto another Sunday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Father's day (not that any men read this blog!) Oh & I realized I never posted the scrumptious snicker bar cookie recipe or reviews on the books I read. So here it is. I read all of Josi Kilpack's books (still waiting on 1). They were very catchy. Some are love stories & others are love/mystery. Mainly they all could be real life. My favorite one is Unsung Lullaby. So if any of you read them, let me know how you liked them. They do have a huge Mormon spin on about all of them! Oh I have to share this fun story from yesterday...I was babysitting yesterday, at work (score!). It was my boss's baby b/c she had to go help the big boss. Anyways, Baby A was throwing up for no reason the night before, but I fed her during the day & she hadn't thrown up, so I thought AMAZING...then John put her in the swinging chair & she had big crocodile tears in her eyes, so what did I do, OF COURSE, pick her up just in time for her to puke all over me from my chest to the toes & all over the office floor! Don't worry she didn't get much on her. After cleaning her up I went home to change into sweats & t-shirt (since we were babysitting some other girls after work). I was so nice not wearing work clothes for a few hours. Poor little Baby A. I think she has an ear infection. Well there you have it, you don't have to be a stay home mom to get pucked on!

Snicker Cookies
•1/2 cup sugar
•1-1/2 cups brown sugar
•1 cup butter, softened
•1-1/4 cups peanut butter
•2 eggs
•1 Tbsp. vanilla
•2-3/4 cups flour
•1 tsp. baking powder
•1 tsp. baking soda
•1/2 tsp. salt
•20 fun size Snicker candy bars, unwrapped
•1 cup milk chocolate chips

Beat white & brown sugar with butter & peanut butter until fluffy. Beat in eggs & vanilla.
Add flour, baking soda, baking powder & salt. Mix well. Cover dough & chill for at least 30 minutes, preferably 4-6 hours. Shape a scant 1/4 cup of dough around each unwrapped candy bar. (I ususally use the mini ones so I don't use that much dough.) Be sure that the candy bar is completely covered with dough, or it will melt out onto the cookie sheet during baking. Place the balls of dough 4 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet, about 9 cookies per sheet.

OR you can cut each candy bar in half crosswise, and wrap 2 tablespoons of dough around each candy bar half. You'll get 40 cookies using this method. Bake them for 9-12 minutes until light golden brown.

Bake the large cookies at 375 degrees F for 13-15 minutes or until cookies are light golden brown with some slightly darker brown spots. Cool 10 minutes, then remove from cookie sheets using a large spatula and cool on wire racks.

Place milk chocolate chips in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute; remove and stir. Microwave for 30 seconds longer on high; remove and stir until smooth. Drizzle over cookies.

Lick your Lips Buttermilk Syrup (courtesy of my sis D)

In a pan melt 1/4 C Butter, 1 C Sugar, 1/2 C Buttermilk (I mixed milk & about 1/2 tsp lemon juice) When it starts to boil take it off & add 3/4 tsp. baking soda & 1 tsp. vanilla (I add a little more) Its going to get REALLY foamy, but just keep stiring still its about the constisansty of syrup. Best is served warm. Enjoy & don't forget to lick those lips.

Peppers & 7 inches

I just have to say not all jobs are "ideal", but I believe that whatever job you do have...do the best you can. Now with that said I saw something very disturbing yesterday. John & I were at the grocery store & a "food stacker" what putting peppers on the "veggie bed" & they were in a plastic container. Well he dropped one package all over the floor...no big deal..then he proceded to just stick them back in the package & put them on the shelf!!! Now I know why my mother always told me to wash produce b/f eating it! I know where I'm not buying my produce anymore.

Now for the 7 inches...I chopped it off my head!!! I was very nervouse b/c I have been growing my hair out from a bad hair cut since 08. But I figured why not & it was getting sooo hot. I also highlighted it (very natural carmel color) for the first time. Wow that takes forever to do when you've got thick hair. I don't think I'll do it again, but it was fun & I love it all. Sorry the picture is HUGE, but I couldn't get it smaller.

I am home for lunch right now & had an overwhelming warmth & comfort. I was looking at some pictures shar posted from yesterday..my brother Steven came home for R&R for two weeks. I couldn't help but smile at all the Lord has blessed me with in this life. I am so thankful for those who serve everyday. I was also thinking of my even more than AMAZING husband & how hard he works & his love for me. I could go on & on but I just had to post how blessed I feel right now. Now the trick is for me to remember that when I go back to work & people are yelling at me on the phone. I did get someone today who called right back & apologized though...which is rare! Hope every one is having a great week!

Spring is here!

It's been so nice waking up to chirping birds every morning! I am really happy it's finally SPRING. Last weekend John's brother Robert came up to visit. We just relaxed mostly. He'll be back up this Fall for school. It was the first time seeing him since he's come home from his mission. Talking about missions, my baby brother Mark received his mission call on Thursday. He will serve in very south Mexico, don't ask me how to say the city name. I can't believe he is even old enough to go! We are very proud of him & this great decision he's made for his life. John is still busy busy bee with homework. I was feeling very blessed the other day thinking about all the time we've spent in Rexburg, I had to figure out how much longer we had....only 13 more classes left! He could be finished by next Fall maybe (wishing & dreaming)!!! I have been reading lots of books by Josi Kilpak & only have one more left to read. When I am finished I will write about all of them! And I am attempting to make our bedding. Pictures to come when its finished. That's what are SPRING has been so far.

Oh Ogden!

Ok...lets see what we've been up to this last month. John finished his winter semester early April. We decided to take a little trip to Ogden, UT. Why you may ask...just cause...& my brother Michael had his final competition for his drum line. As you can see from the pictures, they WON! It was very neat to see him perform. They all did a wonderful job. We did a little ice skating while we were there & visited one of John's mission companions. Other than that it was just a nice relaxing weekend. Now John is already through his first week of the Spring semester. It, of course, is VERY busy as always. Now we are just enjoying the rain/hail/wind storms that greet us each & every day! Coming soon are some book reviews & yummy cookie recipe!

Just another post

I haven't posted in a while b/c we are boring & our laptop kicked it. We are back in business with a new computer! I thought I would give you an update on our lives since my last post. I don't remember what we did on Valentines Day...i'm not a huge fan. John is pretty much back to normal now. I got caught with that NASTY flu for a little while...I am happy to report I was able to take ONE day off from work! Now we are staying busy with getting John finished with the semester, our callings & planning hiking trips & our summer vacation home! We had our Relief Society Birthday Celebration this month & it went really well. We decided to go with a different theme...actual birthday party! We had balloons & presents, games & cupcakes. Don't worry there was some Relief Society history tied in. This week we saw our first peek of GRASS! I think that's when we started planning our hikes. Oh & the one thing that I found, I am not so sure it's great, ONE WHITE HAIR on my head! I was horrified. I was teasing John a few days before that he had a white patch, but of course he didn't. So naturally I found a real one on my head. I am turning 25 in a few months & I had a WHITE hair. My grandmother had a full head of white hair in her 20's, so growing up I was very curious {worried} I would have the pleasure of carrying that gene. It turns out I might. I did pull it out, so I guess we'll have to see if 3 more grow in it's place. Oh today we were going over John's classes & he only has 15 more after this next Spring semester, so MAYBE we will be finished in 2012 not 2013! So now you are all updated on the many happenings of our simple life.

Christmas, New Years & Appendix!

I know its a little late, but Merry Christmas & Happy 2011. Where to begin. John & I stayed home for the holidays. We had a nice relaxing Christmas just hanging out together...actually this is sad, but I don't really remember what we did that day.

Now counting down to the New Years was very lively for us. We chaperoned a HUGE youth dance. It was very different from when we were in high school to say the least. The music was so weird! I know we aren't that old, but they didn't play any of the old school songs we all use to "get down" to.

Well a week later John started another semester. He is officially half way through with his credits. We are anticipating he will be finished in 2013, but as we all know plans never stay the same. He is really diving into his major & couldn't be happier. He joined the Sociology Society!

While he is busy with homework, I keep myself busy reading books. I did read the Hunger Games & LOVED them. Jody Kilpack came out with another "yummy" murder mystery book...Key Lime Pie...& of course I had to read that. I was not disappointed at all. Now I am in the middle of EAT, PRAY, LOVE. I have to say I am having a difficult time getting into it. I am also trying new recipes. For Christmas Eve I decided Santa needed a change from the original sugar cookie, so I made chocolate dipped macaroons & oh boy did Santa LOVE those! Also for our work party I wanted to make S'more Brownies. I followed the recipe to the "T". Needless to say I won't do that again! Short story even shorter, when the directions say to put marshmallows 6 inches from the broiler, DON'T! It will catch on fire REALLY fast!

Now for the most recent event....John had his appendix removed Monday night! We just decided since it was only the two of us, we needed to mix FHE up a bit. Well it started early that morning he was feeling pain, but didn't tell me until it was pretty bad at 1pm. He told me he needed to go the doctors & I knew right then he was in a lot of pain. I dropped him off & went back to work. Two hours went by & I was getting really nervous. He finally called & told me to get the doc's office. Just a few minutes after I arrived, the surgeon came in & told us John needed to have the surgery right then. We drove the 30 seconds up the road to the hospital (thank you convince of small town!). He was out of surgery & spouting out all those funny "coming out of anesthesia" things by 8:30pm. I took him home the next morning. I am happy to report he is walking around, but still pretty sore. Heavenly Father has truly blessed us during this week.

OK so that was a long post I know, but I have been putting it off for so long. By the way, we are still covered with snow & ice! We hope everyone is having a great year so far! Love ya.

Giving Thanks

Happy, VERY LATE, Thanksgiving everyone! We still have pie in the fridge! It was going to be a VERY big dinner for us, but the weather wasn't so nice to the family & friends traveling our way. At least they are all alive & well & that is the BEST thanksgiving I could ever ask for. We were able to spend the weekend with Jenny, Laura & Riley. It was so much fun cooking & baking...then eating & relaxing. Like I said earlier we still have pie left over. It took a LONG time to eat all the yummy food. We had planned on about 10-11 college kids, so we had a lot of meat that we had to cook. Needless to say I really didn't gain any more weight from all the food. John & I have still been sticking to our gym routine! Although I have to admit it has been very hard to go because it is very FROZEN here....So now it's December & still frozen. John has been working hard finishing up school this last week & working 2 jobs. I really admire him for all his hard work. As for me, I haven't been up to much...making Christmas cards...& just planning a day dream vacation to Hawaii...& now the secret is out on how we survive the winters here! We've been really horrible about taking pictures, but hopefully I'll remember the camera this holiday season & actually post pictures! We are going to stay here for Christmas & sleep that WHOLE day! Last year I read the culinary murder mystery books on Christmas...so if anyone has a suggestion for a good book to read this year comment & let me know! Ok that sums up our month. Hope everyone is staying warm & drinking LOTS of cocoa!

Halloween

First I have to say John & I are not huge fans of this holiday. Probably b/c we don't have any kids yet. But we did dress up for work...John wore his hockey jersey & I wore brown pants, green shirt & flowers in my hair...flower garden! We had a work lunch party that Friday & that was all we did for Halloween. Onto our FAVORITE season...CHRISTMAS!!!! We are having lots of college guys & Jenny over for Thanksgiving dinner & I couldn't be more excited. I LOVE baking! So Halloween weekend we started to deep clean our house. I don't think there was one nook & cranny that didn't get De-cluttered. By Saturday afternoon we had a trunk full of things to bring to the D.I. It feels so good to get rid of things we don't use. Then we did a little shopping to decorate our home....&....put up our Christmas Tree!!!! We've always done it this early & I don't think that will change anytime soon. So...I have to brag about my cute B.F.F. for a second...last night when I came home from work John greeted me at the door in his suit & had a candle light dinner waiting for me with the music & everything! We danced & ate a yummy carrot cake, minus the carrot. It's a good thing this is for ETERNITY b/c I just can't get enough of him! Anyways...other than getting too excited for the first snowfall, we are doing good. Hockey season is more fun to follow this year b/c I learned everything from a FANATIC. Work & school are still the same. At the end of this semester John will be exactly half way finished! Time goes by too fast (& slow). So there's our monthly update. I thought I would be better at blogging...I think I just enjoy the different backgrounds! Hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!

On Saturday we will have stuck with this challenge for 2 weeks! I am so proud of us for actually getting up early & working out hard core EVERYDAY (except Sunday). I have to admit, I didn't think I would enjoy the weights as much, but they are my favorite. I don't think we'll stop at just 12 weeks. This has been a great program for us & our needs. The food is really not too different. We are use to eating what he says to eat, just adding more protein shakes. Anyways, we are feeling great & I do feel a little stronger in my arms. If you don't know this, I am not very strong, but soon I will be! So that's us for the time being. Hope every one is healthy & happy.

12 Week Challenge!!!

Ok so we were at the D.I. a few weeks ago & I found a GREAT book for $2! I have been wanting to get this book & try the 12 week challenge. It's Body-for-Life! John & I started last monday & we LOVE it. We have so much more energy this week & feel GREAT! Don't worry, I'm not going to post before & after shots..lol. Anyways, thats what I have been busy with, hey something other than work! John is still a busy bee with school & work & making me laugh. The leaves are now falling & turning pretty warm colors & I am ready to put up my christmas decor! One more month until I can do that. We are so excited for thanksgiving because we have John's sister up here & my brother & his two roomies are coming up as well. I love cooking for lots of people, who in turn take it all home with them afterwards. Well thats all for now. I have a Relief Society activity coming up that I am in charge of, so I will post that later. (Thanks Shar for the idea!)Love you all & Happy Fall!

I've been meaning to blog about the video for some time now. WARNING: if your like me, grab a tissue b/f watching.

I grew up in a military family. My father served in the Air Force, I have 2 brothers serving in Air Force now, one brother in the Army & one brother in law in the Coast Gaurd. I know it's their job, but have you ever asked a military member why they joined? They do it for us. I am so grateful for my family members & all others who serve with honor to protect the freedoms I enjoy daily. When you come across a military member, say THANK YOU. Our prayers are with all those serving our country & their families. We love you.

Ok so here are some pictures from this summer. I just put all the silly ones into a slide show for you. Hope you enjoy it!

John & I are doing great. He started his online classes a few weeks ago & is enjoying learning about his new major (sociology). I can't lie, it's been nice to have family just up the street! It's so much fun to see Jenny starting college & hearing all of the FUN stories! This week at work has been nice for me. It's always nice, but extra I guess b/c my manager had her baby on Tuesday & I have been doing a lot of what she does. Just more items for the resume ya know! On Saturday we went to I.F. to pick up some chicken, light bulbs...normal household items & didn't come home until 6 pm. For John or any guy that is a very LONG day of shopping. We actually spent most of the time at the mall. I am proud of him for going that long & not complaining once. I don't know if he'll ever admit it, but I'm pretty sure he had fun too!

The leaves have been turning those pretty warm colors & the weekend had nice cool weather...then this morning we woke up to HOT HOT HOT weather! What is this? I even wore a long dress b/c I thought it was going to be another cool day. Totally wrong. To make matters worse the whole church had their heater on! Lets hope for a cooler week starting NOW! John & I subbed in primary today. It was fun & different at the same time. The 3rd hour John had to go teach his first lesson in Elders Quarm. I prayed A LOT that he would have lots of participation & he said he did! He was a little worried about that.

Now its time to hit the pillow (well John's been sleeping for a few hours now!) Hope you all have a great FALL filled week!

I know its a little late, but it was our 3rd Anniversary on Sept. 8th. We didn't do too much, work & went to dinner at Applebees. I really am the LUCKIEST girl in the world to be married to my very BEST FRIEND! He makes me laugh EVERY single day & that's no lie! Three years have really gone by too fast. Good thing this is going to last for ETERNITY cause I can't get enough of him!

Catch Up!

WOW! Has it been a whole month already? We've been gone almost ALL summer it feels like. Here is some things over the last month we've been up to. Aug. 13 we started our travels down to Colorado once more for the marriage of Mark & Heather. They were sealed in the Denver Temple on Aug 20. It was such a sweet ceremony & a BEAUTIFUL day. We were all worried about the weather that week b/c it was really rainy, but their special day was filled with sunshine! It was so fun getting everything ready at the house for the reception. One of the afternoons we had fun making our own paper boats & seeing who's would float the longest in the pond. (ALL pictures soon to come)On that Monday Melissa & Stewart put together a fun family night for the two families to get to know each other a little better. During those games I actually chipped my front tooth! I was able to get it fixed the very next day. I don't know what else we did except get ready for the wedding! It was so much fun to see our families again. We miss every one already. John celebrated his GOLDEN birthday on the 25Th. We had lunch at the office for him. I am so lucky to have him in my life. He is such an example to me & blesses our home with his sweet spirit each day. I love my best friend! Then last weekend we quickly drove down to Utah to meet up with the Millers once again, but this time we were able to bring one back to Idaho with us! Jenny starts her freshman year up here at BYU-Idaho this week. It brings back so many memories about when I started college up here 5 years ago. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago. It has been a relaxing week for us & just getting to spend time with her. The best part of it is, is that she will be living just at the end of our road! My favorite part of this week has been watching John try so hard not to be too protective of her & trying to remember she is all grown up now. It gave me a little glimpse into the future of what a tender father he will be to our children. So that is another recap of our summer. Who knows maybe this week I'll actually post pictures of the whole thing!

Vacation!

Where did this past month go? It seems like we are not busy, but we really have been. Now I will play catch up with the blog! So mid July John finished his semester with flying colors (way to go babe!). He is very happy that bunch of classes is finished. Then July 23-31st we went back to Colorado for my family reunion & to see the Millers. It was such a BLAST being with everyone. We did lots of fun activities like: picnic, Mr. Bigs (fun center), eating lots of YUMMY food, scrapbooking, photo scavg.hunt laughing. One of the nights John was so kind & did the Haka dance for my family! I love having such a HUGE family! I miss everyone already. It was really hard to come back to reality at the end of the week though. But we are leaving this Friday back to Colorado for another WHOLE week! John's brother Mark is getting married next Friday. We are VERY happy for you Mark & Heather! So that is what we've been up to. Oh & John received a new calling...Elder's quarm teacher...he is VERY excited about this! Before we left I made a blue jean quilt that I will post pictures of once I take some. On Saturday I made M&H's wedding sign in book...pictures will be posted before we leave again, I promise.

Happy 4Th of July everyone! I was sitting in church today listening to those bear testimony of this great country we live in & couldn't help but feel over joyed to be in a family where so many men are serving our country! One lady related how our Heavenly Father gave His precious for His precious. Just like those who fight for our FREEDOM. Thank you to those who serve our country with pride. We love you!

Today was our FINAL DAY in primary. We were released this morning. How grateful we are to have served there & were able to learn so much from those sweet spirits. It was a bitter sweet moment. When we were walking home from church & our old bishop stopped his car just to say thanks for serving in the primary! John & I had to laugh b/c we joke around that everyone has forgotten about us since we've been down there so long! Thanks Bro. E for remembering who we are! I guess I have to get use to being in Relief Society again...weird...but exciting!

On Friday we went camping with our great FRIENDS Mike & Amanda in Island Park. What a GORGEOUS place! We found a great location away from all the hustle & bustle. After we set up the tent & started staking it into the ground we found the ground was a bit too rock solid, so we had to improvise...see pics...& the next morning as we were heading out the battery died. Not the best time to be secluded from the world. We didn't wait long b/f someone came along to help jump the car. Thank you! Then we took a nice drive to Mesa Falls & walked around. That was a BEAUTIFUL place. After we got home we pretty much napped for the rest of the day. It was such a wonderful weekend.

We don't have to work tomorrow!!!But laundry, cleaning, homework are on the schedule...can you even call that a day off? Well I hope everyone had a great holiday!

Busy,busy bees...that's what we have been this past few months. John is working hard to finish this semester next month. Last weekend we went down to Utah to see the Miller's & Riley's! We had such a BLAST! We miss them all ready. Memorial day we had a picnic with our bestest buds, the BROCK's! I am staying busy working as always! AND....after almost 3 years being in the primary I have received a new calling. I am now on the Relief Society board to help plan the activities! John doesn't have a new calling yet, but I don't think it will be too much longer. We are not "officially" released from the primary b/c they have to find new teachers. It has been such a wonderful journey being there & learning from all those sweet children. We will keep their funny comments with us FOREVER! I knew it was going to happen when it did b/c I actually prayed for it, (well not to be released of course, just some direction) and low & behold the very next day...new direction! It is such a testimony to know that the Lord is always listening & does know what is best for each of us. Hope every one is doing well.

Lovin' the Kids & Mother's Day!

So John & I have been in Primary since the second we got married! We absolutly LOVE it!!! This year we are teaching 6 year olds. It is such a fun age to be around b/c they just keep on going like the pink bunny! Since they have been soooo reverent in Church this year & bringing their scriputres we thought a YUMMY pizza party would be a good reward. Today the weather was GORGOUS so we met at the park down the road & ate some pizza & played all sorts of games. It is such a blessing to spend time with these AMAZING children of our Heavenly Fathers. Their testimonies & good examples help John & I though every week. WE LOVE ALL OF YOU VERY MUCH! The other cutest thing with one of our primary boys happened on Friday night. We were driving back from the store when our phone rang..& it was "I". " He said, "Hey sis. miller, wanna meet my grandma?" "Sure" So he handed the phone over to his dear g'ma & we talked about how sweet "I" was! It's just made my heart melt! I couldn't stop smiling all night.

I know I haven't blogged since we got our car, so here is what we've been up to lately...school & work! This semester has been very time consuming for John & I have had so much fun helping out with studying. To be honest, I MISS COLLEGE! I love learing new things all the time. I can't wait to go back someday. A few weeks ago we were able to see my brother & his BEAUTIFUL wife & their 3 boys. The new little one is SOOO cute! The weather up here has been VERY unpridictable....rain, hail, sunshine, SNOW & more sunshine! It will be nice to live somewhere someday with sunshine more than 2 months out of the year!

Also, Happy Mother's Day (tomorrow) for all of you WONDERFUL mother's out there. Tomorrow the youth will be teaching primary so all the women are able to go to Relief Society! I haven't been in FOREVER! I am REALLY looking forward to it. I am so grateful for such a wonderful mother who has taught me the gospel & how to love & serve others. I ALWAYS want to be like my mom! I have never known such a selfless, beautiful spirit than my MOM! Thank you for all you do for me. I love you so much twinner! And to my dear Mother-in-law, I can't beging to express how much love I have for you too! I can see what an AMAZING mother you are everyday when I watch John. He admires you so much, as do I. Thank you for your good example of always following Christ & keeping Him at the center of your life. I am also grateful for all my sister's & sister-in-laws who love their children so much! John & I always watch your sweet families when we are together & marvel at the SPECIAL children you've raised. Thank you for that. We are all so blessed with such wonderful woman in our lives to look up to....so Happy Mother's Day!

So we got a new car! We are so grateful for our old one & that it held up as long as it has...but it was time to update. It's a Honda CRV 98..red...you can see for yourself. Anyways it was a great deal that couldn't be passed up. Thats what we've been up to lately. Just wanted to do a post really quick. Hope every one is doing great!

Visitor's, Spring & LAZY days!

Last Saturday my mom & brother Johnny came to visit me. They left on Thursday morning. It was a WONDERFUL visit. On Sunday mom came to primary with me to teach & the John's were able to go to Sunday school & elders quarm class! John's hasn't been to one of those forever! He enjoyed it so much. That afternoon I took them on a Sunday drive around our town to see all the beautiful places up here. The weather was BEAUTIFUL all week for them! Monday was spent going through all the old things my mom brought up that I left at their home before I was married. I started out with 10 Rubbermaid's, but ended up with just 1! I was so proud of myself! I think I have grown out of that pack rat stage. The rest of the days we just hung out and relaxed. Wednesday morning mom & I were able to go to the Rexburg Temple to do a session. Afterwards we walked around so I could show here everything in there. We had such a good time together. John was really busy the whole time they were here with school, but he was able to come to dinner with us that last night to our favorite pizza place, CRAIGOS! It went by WAY too fast, like vacations ALWAYS do, but I enjoyed every minute of it! Thanks mom & Johnny for coming to visit us! We miss you already.

That brings us to this Saturday full of sunshine & smiles...must be SPRING! Since John had such a long week & we hardly saw each other we decided today was a LAZY day! We were able to sleep in until 8. Then we watched some shows & got ready for the day. We visited our good friends for a little bit in the afternoon. Then we had a treat at the new frozen yogurt place here in town. It has been very relaxing & nice just to be TOGETHER ALL DAY LONG!

So that's us for now...just trying to get through the next few weeks of finals for John & then a week break until they start back up again! Hope everyone is enjoying this GORGEOUS weather!

We've had a pretty warm week & are so excited for SPRING to be here already! This is an early one for Rexburg. There is still snow every where in in our yard, but half of our sidewalk has no ice or snow on it! John & I stood outside this morning soaking up the sun & just listened to the birds. I love SPRING! It was a wonderful season filled with sunshine & hope. We are really looking forward to this next few months b/c in 2 weeks my mom & brother are going to visit me for almost a week, in April John will finish this semester & start a new one. I have been spending my free time doing another scrapbook...it's almost finished so pictures will be posted soon! Oh yes & on Thursday I got my hair cut, just a trim on the layers but I had her chop my bangs. I am still getting use to them. Things in the Miller home are WONDERFUL! Have a great weekend everyone.

VHS & Carrot Cake Recipe

Do you ever have those weekends when you do so much and then at the end of them sit & wonder what it was exactly you did? I am having one of those weekends. John & I did so much today, but here it is 8:30 at night & I am scratching my brain at how fast it went! The best thing we did today was buy a VCR at the D.I for only $12. It was actually the same model my parents had when I was growing up! It is in pretty perfect condition. I've been wanting one for a while b/c all my favorite chick flicks or on VHS. When put in a movie we both forgot how loud they are when you rewind or fast forward. Do you remember all those lines that show up on the T.V. too! It's really amazing how far technology has come. We are so blessed with it. Another highlight to our day was the homemade SALSA! It was the first time we had ever attempted this food & I must say it turned out pretty good. John bought some kind of pepper, I had never heard of it before, but when he cut it open it was so potent it started making us cough and stung our nostrils really bad. Luckily we did NOT add any to the mixture. It was fun being in the kitchen today. Now it's time to get the lesson ready for tomorrow & then put in a VHS chick flick! Hope every one had a good weekend. Here is my new favorite dessert....CARROT CAKE! As you know I made this for valentines day & it turned out sooo good. I got the recipe off of marthastewart.com. Enjoy!

Moist Yummy Carrot Cake

Preheat oven 350

Butter two round pans, line with wax paper & butter, dust with flour

Wisk:

1 1/4 C Flour (I think whole wheat would taste really good)

1/2 tsp. Baking powder

1/2 tsp. Baking soda

1 tsp. Cinnamon

1/2 tsp. Salt

1/4 tsp. Ginger

1/4 tsp. Nutmeg

Set it aside

Beat till fluffy:

6 Oz. Butter

1/2 C. Brown sugar

1/4 C. Sugar

Add:

2 eggs & beat for a few more minutes

Add:

1 tsp. Vanilla

1/4 C. Water

1 1/2 C. Grated Carrots (I use the tiny grate side)

(I also add about 1/4 c. of applesauce, It makes it just a bit more moist)

Add the flour mixture & bake for 30 minutes, rotating half way through. Cool in pan for 15 mintues b/f taking off the wax paper.

I add cream cheese frosting to this YUMMY cake!

8 oz cream cheese, 1 tsp. vanilla, 8 TBSP butter, 2 c powdered sugar

Scripture Bags & Valentines!

Happy Valentines Day! I'm actually not a fan of this day, but I do love being in LOVE with my best friend. There hasn't been a single day that we've been together that John hasn't made me laugh! Through all the happy times & trying times he always is there holding my hand. I couldn't have dreamed of a more wonderful man to be with for ETERNITY!

I did break down and make a cake for dinner tonight. It's carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, then I added some pink piping, just to practice. I also make sugar cookies for each child in our class.

Last night I finished all the scripture bags for the children as well. They turned out to be pretty cute! Then I felt left out & made one for myself. So here are the pictures!

This is the girl's bag. There are 3 girls in our class so they all have the same one.

Here is the boy bag. John picked out the material! We also have 3 boys.

It was so worth it just seeing their excited faces to have their own scriptures they can mark up when they read. We thought it would be a great opportunity for them to read more in & out of class on their own. We put notepads & pencils & scripture markers in the bags as well. Did I mention how much we LOVE being in primary!

Well this is a three day weekend for us, so we are so excited! We've just been relaxing after a long study week for John's schooling. I've been trying to think of new things to blog about, since our own lives are pretty boring, so I think I will do a recipe of the week for starters! Keep an eye out for that this week.

Ice Skating on SLUSH!

BYU-I built an outdoor hockey rink a little while ago and so in the winters it's really freezing up here so they make it an ice skating rink! John & I have been wanting to go, but have been busy, so today we thought we would try it. We went around 2:30 this afternoon. Well we paid for the skates and put them on...walk to the rink to find slush EVERYWHERE!!! We tried skating around for a few minutes, but we kept getting stuck in the slush. So they told everyone to go home for the day...but they gave us a free pass for next week when it's colder! We are thinking of a night trip there, that way we can guarantee ice! Our week has been busy busy..well I should say John has been busy with school and work. Tonight we are going to sew scripture bags for our class! John is is charge of the boys and I am making the girls. Pictures will be posted. I am so bad at pictures. We are also getting excited for Valentines weekend...not b/c its Valentines (it's really not my fav. holiday) but b/c it's a 3 day weekend!!! Other than that nothing new. Time to go make dinner! School, Work, Play

It's been busy at the Miller house! John started school & has been working very hard for those AWSOME grades he is getting. I admire him so much for working very hard at school. Poor guy really doesn't get any breaks all day, 8am classes everyday, then a brisk 10 min. walk to work, come home at 5, hit the books until wee hours of the morning , then start all over again for 5 days straight! I am so happy we both are not in school at the same time anymore. Other than school life is wonderful. Last weekend we went bowling (which we do about once a year). John beat me both games. We had so much fun just laughing and not thinking about school or work for the evening! Last Saturday we had our annual Primary PJ breakfast party! Our new class is so great. We love being in Primary, but last week we thought we were going to be released b/c they are replacing practically all the teachers. We've been there the longest, so its only time b/f we leave it. We will be sad when it happens, hopefully it never does! As for today (our only day to relax) John is on the floor with tools and random things and I have NO idea what he is making. That is one of the things I love about my husband, he just loves to make stuff out of random things. The other day it was cold and snowy, as usual, and so we were looking at vactions to anywhere tropical, but I don't like flying let alone over the ocean, but John thought it would be so cool if we crashed on an island and had to survive there! I think that is his dream! Ok I know I am babbling on....Today I am going to read a book and enjoy not having to do saturday cleaning b/c my most wonderful husband cleaned it all before he went to class yesterday! I was so grateful when I came home from work last night and saw what he had done. Well now I am just getting all mushy, so I better end this blog post. Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend too. A New Year!

I know I'm two weeks late for saying this, but HAPPY NEW YEAR! John and I just relaxed for that holiday. I think we made it to 12:15 a.m.. With a new year comes a new primary class. We are now back teaching the 6 year olds again. This is the age group we taught our first year. They are so much fun. 3 boys and 3 girls. It is fun to see the difference in the 4-5 year olds we just taught and now the 6-7 years olds. We can have more in depth lessons again! We hope to stay in primary for the next 4 years we are here. So, John started a new semester last week and is already doing well. All his classes are moving at turbo speed it seems like. He is enjoying learning new things. It's snowing all the time up here. I think when we are finally finished with college we'll move somewhere VERY hot for a change of pace! I've been keeping myself busy by reading & doing fun scrap booking projects & of course working 9-5 as always. That's our life at the moment.
Onto this year, we have some fun things to look forward to. Sometime soon we are going to visit my brother Mike down in Utah. We've haven't seen him since he's been home from his mission! In March my mom & brother Johnny are coming to visit us for a few days. We have two nephews being born this spring. Another niece or nephew being born in the summer some time (still too early to tell what and when) John's brother Mark returns from his mission around June from Brazil! John's sister & brother are coming up to BYU-I. There is a Coleman family reunion in July that we'll be going down for. After that it's back to Idaho to start the winter season & try to stay warm for the next 6 months!

December 25th

I didn't take a single picture on Christmas day! (How lame am I?) We had a wonderful day full of RELAXING!!! We slept in a little, then opened the gifts from the "R" family! I started on the dinner, which really didn't take long. So the rest of the day we read books. We were also able to speak with John's 2 brothers serving missions. It was wonderful to hear how they are doing. I know it was pretty uneventful, but it's just what we needed. Now we are looking forward to the New Years (b/c it means another day off of work!). John will start school next week. I've been keeping busy just reading books and random things that take up time after work. Which now I guess I have to tell you my new favorite series. They are Culinary Mystery's by Josi S. Kilpack. Her first book is called "Lemon Tart", then comes "English Trifle". Third book is released in the spring & it's called "Devil's Food Cake". They are not scary, but they sure keep you guessing till the last page. They were clean and not a single naughty word (she is Mormon!). So I highly recommend these books. Well that's all for now. Christmas Eve & Pie

This year we stayed home for the holidays. It was so nice and relaxing to not travel in the winter. We were invited to a families home for Christmas Eve. They live a few houses down from us. They have four children home & one on a mission. They made us a yummy dinner and then we sat around playing games, laughing & just chatting. We had tasted Sis. "R"'s delicious pies earlier and I couldn't wait to get the recipe...even better she gave us an apple pie of our very own to take home for our Christmas day dinner! It was such a wonderful evening with the "R" family and we were able to read the Christmas story with them & sing hymns. It was a special experience for me as I felt my Heavenly Father's love for John & I. He has blessed us with wonderful neighbors who reach out to us and teach us what an eternal family looks like! I will always cherish this Christmas with them and the love we felt. It meant more to us than they will ever know. Thank you "R" family, We love you!

Dessert Night

I know I am posting this really late, but never late than never! About a month ago, while the Internet was down, we decided to make desserts without recipes! Now I can follow a recipe and make some good desserts, so I was a little worried! We had a special ingredient PRETZELS! I made little pumpkin cheesecake things with bananas on top and of course a pretzel crust. The picture may make it look good, but let me say it wasn't my favorite dessert I've made. John made a pretzel crust (copy cat!) and some thick bread cake thing on top. I am not even sure what was in it, but it was good for his first attempt at making a dessert. We are not ones to waste food, but those desserts had to go! It was fun trying to come up with measurements and figure out what would taste good together. So now you all have a sneak peak into our boring lives in Idaho!

I am back in the blogging world. We have been without the internet for 4 weeks now! We've played every game in our home a billion times...but there was only so many times I can loose before I go crazy. It has been a blessing though, because we realized how much we depend on this machine for paying bills, keeping in touch with family and friends, etc. I thought of what we would do if we didn't have this luxury anymore. Back to envelopes and stamps!

So now time to update everyone on our little life up here in Iceberg.....nothing new! We have been frozen up here and will be for a long time. It's been nice just relaxing this semester and not having to worry about school. John starts back up in the begining of January and I'll continue working at the same job for the next four years until he graduates. Man we are a boring couple! We are staying in the primary, as far as we know, for now. It is always a bitter sweet time. We have been so blessed to serve these sweet children for 2 years now. Having a class of all girls has made me really want ALL BOYS when we have kids. I say that now, but the new class we are getting are all boys, so we'll see how that goes!

We are not all boring, but at the moment I can't think of everything we've been up to. Now I'll be able to most more often and pictures are on their way. Hope everyone is having fun in the snow and getting ready for the Christmas season. We love you all & we (I) am glad to have the wonderful world of blogging back!

November Already!

Most people think we are CRAZY, but we have our little quirky traditions for the holidays. Our favorite holiday is CHRISTMAS! It is just a happy time and is so short. So our very first Christmas we decided we wanted to celebrate it just a little longer than most folks, so we put up our Christmas decorations and tree the first monday in November! I am sitting here looking at the twinkle lights and can't help but smile and remember all those holiday memories with family and now with just us.

And that's pretty much all we've been up to. We had one good snow fall right before Halloween, but it melted. Oh for Halloween we went over to our boss's mother in law's (she is really old) and passed out candy so she wouldn't have to get up so much (she tends to fall over). We had a lot of fun! John and I also have been working on our food storage and 72 kits. There is so much I never would have thought of! It has been a lot of fun to plan it out together. They just opened a new food storage store...it's AMAZING! Who knew there was such a thing as Margarine Powder? I also have been working on some scrapbooking and christmas cards. This weekend we are going to make our stockings (finally!) We are also counting down til Elder Coleman returns with honor from Brazil in 13 days!!! We won't be able to see him until next year, but at least we can chit chat with him! For Thanksgiving we are having some friends over and I am going to "ATTEMPT" to make a turkey for the first time, but I am making a ham as back up! If anyone has some good tips on turkey's please let me know.

October Happenings....

Ok it's been a LONG time, but here I am again...We have had some fun few weeks. Last weekend we were able to babysit our friends little boy while they went hunting. It was so much fun! He is such an active boy, so it kept us busy. John had lots of fun reading to him and rocking him to sleep. He'll be an AMAZING father someday. October 1st was a HUGE day for our home...NHL started!!! (John's favorite thing....besides his wifey!) The Avalanche are doing really great this season. GO AVS! Also the same day we had our first snow fall of the winter season. It lasted till mid afternoon, but it was so BEAUTIFUL. We were really tempted to put up our Christmas tree, but we settled for just watching Christmas movies & drinking cocoa instead. Work is still going. We have our primary program next Sunday...I think the kids are getting burnt our on singing the same songs this long, but they are doing really well. I have been doing some scrapblooking and crafty things today....see pics below. The weather has been gray and cold the last few weeks, but today was surprisingly warm. We went outstide and did some cartwheels in the grass. We both haven't done those since middle schoolm but it was so much fun....just reminded us when we were young. That's about it for now. Life is the same, but more wonderful each day. John and I were able to go the temple last night and then afterwards we sat on a bench in the back and watched the orange sunset. It was so beautiful. I am so grateful for John and the strength he adds to our family. We are just so excited for the holiday season & for Elder Coleman to return with honor in 1 month! Hope everyone is doing well and we love you all very much!

As fall begins to roll in I have thought about the season to come and our Savior. He gave so much for us. John and I have been thinking about all our blessings that keep coming and it is amazing! One of our biggest blessings is our family and friends! We are grateful for everyone and the examples they are to us. Thank you. We are grateful for the gospel and the peace it brings to our lives in times of trial and just everyday life. Living so close to the temple and seeing it every day helps bring focus. The list goes on and on, but just wanted to share a few. We are just feeling very grateful for life and the plan of happiness! Hope everyone can recognize those simple blessings in your lives. We love you all!

Homemade Ice Cream

We finally did it! John wanted ice cream the other day and we found a way to make it with just two ziploc baggies! We had to wait a few days to make the ice for it, but tonight it was ready. It was just plain vanillia, but ooh it tasted better than any store bought ice cream EVER! I had done it in primary as a little girl, but John never has. It was a fun activity. Try it!

Simple Moments

I just wanted to write down my thoughts from today really quickly before I go to bed. I was thinking about where John & I are in life right now and how blessed we have been. Rexburg isn't where we want to settle down, but it has brought us so much happiness being here and making so many wonderful friends. It is a truely unique community & we LOVE it! Also I was sitting in primary and looking at our class of 7 wonderful little 4 &5 year old GIRLS! We are so LUCKY to be their teachers. I often wonder if we make a difference or if they even listen to our lessons, but we are the ones who are learing from them every week. They have such strong spirits and warm personalities and make every one around them happy. I am grateful to be their primary teacher. That is all for tonight!

Another Month Has Past!

I know I promised to blog more, but what a month! Both our computers died on us for this month and we just got mine up and running again. We have done a few fun things this past month. In August we celebrated John's 24th birthday! That Saturday we went to Jackson Hole, WY with my work and did a few fun things: Alpine Slide (scary, but fun) You take a ski lift to the top of the mountain and ride down a half tunnel (like bobsled tracks, only not that rounded) on a plastic sled thing with one lever to control breaks and speed. It was scary at first but I had a great time! John didn't get to go too fast b/c he road down with a 3 year old who controled it! After that we just walked around the cute town and went to a Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum. (very weird stuff) Then we drove a little bit out of the town to the Bar J Wranglers Ranch. They give you lots of real cowboy food (YUMMY!) and than had a show afterwards. It was a fun time with everyone.
Yesterday we celebrated our 2nd anniversary! We went to work (so romantic) and I made dinner while John cut some of our friends hair. After dinner we went over to our neighbors home to look through his telescope. He was an astronomy professor for 25 years. We were able to see so many beautiful things, including Jupiter and its 4 moons! It was very neat to see things so far away. We had talked over dinner about how much has happened in 2 years. We are amazed at it all. The Lord has blessed us tremendously. I am so happy to be married to my best friend! We are doing great and are more in love everyday!
John starts his online course tomorrow! It's his last religion class & I know he'll do great. On Sunday we had some family over for dinner. (Mama & Maddie Bair) It has been too long!

Summer Lovin'...had us a BLAST!

Now that we have been home for a month I suppose I should blog our summer vacation. So Colleen finished college on July 17th...ya...and that night we took the red eye to Colorado Springs so we could surprise the family for Johnny's baptism and Steven & Sams's wedding the very next day. It was a very special baptism to witness. We are so proud of Johnny! He also received the Aaronic priestood the next day. He'll be a missionary before we know it. WE LOVE YOU JOHNNY!!! That afternoon was the prettiest wedding! It was very emotional for me b/c Steven and I grew up like twins. I am so glad we were able to be there. Of course I cried the whole weekend...what else would you expect from me! It was so fun to hang out the families and relax from our busy life. This weekend we had the Miller's & Riley's visit us and the fun never stops! Last saturday was the opening ceremonies for the International Dance Festival, so we went to that and of course I cried! It was so amazing to see all the different countries come together in a happy moment. So thats our simple catch up. Enjoy the pictures. Sparklers, Lake, & Sleep

Happy 4th of July! (yesterday) It really started on friday for us....we were surpised that our boss closed the office that day! So we cleaned and relaxed (scrapbooking is relaxing for me!)...Then early Sat. morning, like 5:30 we got up and by 6 am we were at work, which is on main street, setting up some chairs for the parade which would take place 4 hours later. We set out chairs and blankets for my boss's family since they would be there till right before the parade and trust me you need to get there EARLY to get any seat at all. It's crazy here! People rope sections off and set there chairs up the night before! And its not even a big parade! Just one of those traditions of a small town, charming. We didn't stay for the festivities, instead we headed out to Rigby lake, which is about 10 minutes away. We just sat by the water reading and playing cards for a few hours soaking up the sun. John also had a school project he needed to do in the sun, so it worked out perfect! We got home around noon and crashed for a long time. The sun really does take something out of you. Then we relaxed the rest of the day. When it was dark enough we lit our little sparklers and called it a night. This was the first year I never watched fireworks! Overall we had a WONDERFUL weekend and ready to take on another week of school & work. Hope everyone else's weekend was great!

Today was a GREAT day! My english class finished 30 minutes early! My work bought everyone lunch at Applebees and a cake from cold stone...really good...strawberry and red velvet! And they gave me flowers. I had lovely phone messages awaiting for me when I got home from work! Love my family & friends..and some really cute cards came in the mail too! Then John surprised me by getting a bubble bath ready for me with stress releaver salts and candles and a chick flick! While I was soaking he cleaned the WHOLE house and made a pretty cake! After the bath John, the AMAZING man he is, gave me a message. I have more knots in my shoulders and neck than I thought! It was a great birthday!

I am begining to see a new trend with my blogging....non-existent! To play catch up for this lat month. The last week in May we drove down to Colorado with Melissa and Stewart to surprise our families for a little visit! It was perfect timing for me, because my brother Johnny was graduating that day! I was so excited to be there. It was a very nice and relaxing weekend. Melissa took the Miller family pictures...which turned out AMAZING!! She's got some real talent! When we came home it's been non stop busy. School had midterms that same weekend we left, but somehow we finished with A's! Now the semester is on the down slope! No more stress! On June 6th we were able to attend John's mission companions wedding in the Rexburg Temple. It was beautiful! The sealer had some wonderful words of advice for the new couple and for the rest of us there. The one thing that stuck out to us was he said to not change the rainbow. Meaning a rainbow is one of God's creation's and we don't look at it and say, I wish there were more green on the right or red on the left. The same should apply in our marriages since we are also God's creation's. It is always a nice reminder to see a live marriage and remember those promises you made on your own wedding day. This weekend Melissa and Stewart came up for his brother's baby blessing and they stayed at our home. It was fun to hang out with them for a few days, even though it rained the whole time! Life is still busy, but starting to slow down for the summer. I started making Steven & Sam's sign in book for their wedding next month. I will post pictures when I am finished. I love scrapbooking! So thats our last month.

This fall John is going to take a religion class online. I was going to get my C.N.A., but the classes were already full and didn't work with my schedule like I thought they would. Another time. So this fall I am just working. I am excited to relax with John and spend some real time together, not just homework date nights! Oh some real exciting news about my brother Johnny. He is getting baptized the morning of Steven's wedding! I am so proud of him and his progress. He is a special spirit and I am so happy to be his sister. We are unable to go for all the fun things in July because we are taking our finals that same week, but we are so happy for our families!

Even though we have nothing exciting going on, I will blog a lot more now that school is about over! We love you all!

Two Weeks Notice

It's been about 2 weeks since we've blogged, so here's whats new and very UN-exciting with the Millers. We started the spring semester and it's been very busy. Two weekends ago we went down to Utah to see the Miller's and Elder Robert Miller b/f he went to the MTC. We were able to go through the Salt Lake Temple. SO BEAUTIFUL!! It was a nice little visit. Then back to school and work. John and I are now able to work in the Rexburg temple once a week! Its been very wonderful and a blessing. Thats about it, just school, work, temple, teach primary! But we are having a BLAST doing it all! I know its not much, but we are still alive up here and enjoying the windy, rainy, warm, snowy, hot, cold weather!

Winter is OVER!

Iceberg is finally thawed and SPRING is here! Last weekend John and I took advantage of this GORGEOUS weather and hiked our little "R" mountain, which is really a cinder volcano. It was just a short 30-40 minutes hike. We went early in the morning and were able to read the scriptures at the top and take in the view of this beautiful Earth our Heavenly Father has created for us. That same day we also started our 10 day diet, which ends tomorrow. It was great! John did great and lost 15 pounds and I lost 10. We had the week off from school and worked everyday. First day of classes for the SPRING semester start tomorrow! It should be a very busy semester for the both of us. But I have to say I am very excited and anxious to graduate at the end of it! On to other things. This weekend was relaxing. I caught up on some scrap booking projects I have been working on. We are just looking forward to getting through our first week of classes and head down to Utah on Friday afternoon to see the Millers before Robert goes to the MTC! Time goes by too quickly. MAGNETIC ENERGY

Our fridge is about the first thing you see when you walk into our little home. It has been over taken by those fake credit card magnets you get in the mail and papers strewn all over. I was a little sick of looking at it in such an ugly state, so today I decided to put those FREE magnets to a good use! I also found some JUMBO close pins at the local craft store and had a little too much fun decorating our FRIDGE-A-DARE! I absolutely LOVE making new little decorations out of things that are just lying around the house. Soon I'll most two projects I have been working on, also using things laying around the house...brown paper bag scrapbook and old envelope scrapbook!

This weekend was so much fun for us. On Friday we were able to attend the temple in preparation to ward conference. Saturday John filed the taxes (YA!!) and cleaned our room and I cleaned the rest of the house. Then we made a salad, dessert and pigs in blankets for our PJ date night with our WONDERFUL friends the Brocks! Oh we love them so much. John and Brian served in the same mission. Now we are in the same ward. They are such a blessing in our lives! So we did a buffet dinner and watched The Bucket List. REALLY GOOD MOVIE!! I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it, just recommend it. Today we had ward conference. It was really nice to here from our loving bishop and stake presidency. Their talks were all about how to strengthen our families and also prayer. It has been a really uplifting weekend for us. And now to start on another week of busy school and work. The most exciting news for us though is SPRING is hitting Rexburg FINALLY!! We still have snow in some corners, but it's been warming up a lot and raining a bit too. This is our favorite time when the birds start to sing in the mornings! Hope you all enjoy the spring and have a great week.

This week I have had many opportunities for my testimony to grow and to feel the love my Heavenly Father has for me. I think we take advantage of simple acts of service like smiling or giving hugs. It changes things when your on the end that needs that hug and smile. On Sunday a lady in our ward was sitting behind us and slipped me a little note. I had been having a hard time with things lately and I am so grateful for John's love and support, but also that little note made a huge difference in my day and my attitude! It made me realize that I need to have my eyes and ears open for more opportunities to brighten someone's day. Being so far away from all our family is hard at times, but then we look around us and we see so many AMAZING friends that truly love us just like family. Family and friends are WONDERFUL blessings. We love you all so much. Thanks for loving us back!

This week was long for us. We both had lots of tests and projects due (what else is new?) and we had a full week of work! John was so wonderful helping me out with homework, studying for exams and keeping the house clean and cooking! On Wednesday night I de-stressed with baking for a few hours. The finished products were yummy lemon bars, gewy chocolate chip cookies and the half cooked banana bread. The cooked part tasted great! Don't worry I brought this all to work for the co-workers to clean up. On Thursday night we had our friends Quinn & Ashley and their little girl visit for about an hour. They were just up here for the weekend. John and I really are blessed to have such wonderful family and friends who love us!! The weekend was much needed, as it ALWAYS is. On Friday we welcomed our new addition the BED! We finally did it! Some advice we always give to those getting married, never go cheap on a bed. We have learned from that for a 1 1/2 years. Since we both like our space we decided to go with a king and we don't regret it AT ALL. Who knew the extra 18 inches would make a difference. This morning I went to our local craft HEAVEN and found a little project to make for a bridal shower I had this afternoon. It was a wooden/metal recipe board, or whatever else you want to use it for. I had a blast putting it together, along with lots of scrap booking recipes for her and making a card. The bridal shower was really fun. It was for the gal that John's mission buddy is going to marry next month. After the shower I went back to scrap booking this month's calender ( I realize I am a
few weeks late). Sorry this is a long post. Enjoy the pictures.

For Christmas I made mom, Emmy and Meg some quilt purses. They were so much fun to make and John helped a TON! I thought I posted pictures of them already, but nope. I love blogging, but I never have anything to write about! So tonight you get some random things to read. School is going really well for John and I. Midterms are already here! Teaching the CTR 5's is a BLAST!!! The only little boy in our class came in on Sunday and said "I got staples in my head. I bumped my head on the fireplace and there was blood every where, but I didn't cry." We couldn't believe it! But the funny part was how he told the story, just so casually and tuff. We love teaching in primary...such wonderful blessings. Rexburg hasn't seen blue skies for a while. Snow keeps coming down and staying. I bet it will be May or June until we see all the white disappear. This month we were very blessed and John found a job!! He is such a hard worker and I look up to him so much. Now we are just working and focusing on school and figuring out how to make bread. I made my first loaf on Saturday and it is literally about an inch and 1/2 high! But it sure taste good. Like I said just some random things.

Christmas Cheer...a little late.

I know its almost February and I am just writing about Christmas. John and I went down to Orem, Utah & with perfect timing (we missed the storm in Idaho that night!). His parents and siblings drove up from Colorado that same day. We spent a fun filled week at the Riley's place. We went to Temple Square to look at the lights. We went singing to some family. In Spanish Fork they had the coolest light festival. Most the of the lights moved, like a whale in the water blowing water, frogs jumping and catching flies, skaters, cowboys, snowboarders...everything moved! We also went sledding for a bit one afternoon. On Christmas morning Mark,John's brother, called from Brazil. He has been on his mission for about 7 months now. He totally has an accent! It was great to hear him beaming with happiness to be serving. We made dinner that day and it was good food. Later on that afternoon John and I were able to hear from my brother Michael, also in Brazil on his mission. My parents three way the call. Well most of you who would read this know that already, because you did the same thing! We loved hearing both of them. A few days after Christmas we drove with the Millers back to Colorado. We spent a few days with the Coleman's and Williams. We went swimming and played games and had a blast. We couldn't have asked for a better time with our families. It was special times. I think Christmas should be all year round!Then after our two week break from "life" we flew back to Salt Lake City to drive home the next day to the land where all the snow and ice dumped!!!

Life after Christmas...

The week we arrived back to our home in freezing (literally) Idaho, we started school and working again. I don't think we have taken a break since the day we got back. Its been fun!! We have had a blast learning new things in our classes. If everything goes well Colleen will graduate with her Associates degree in July! John will have finished 4 semesters, (way to go babe). Other than work and school and teaching the CTR 5 class in church, nothing really too exciting...We are excited to see what this year will bring. We love you all!!

Surprises

John never ceases to surprise me day to day, but last weekend it was a wonderful surprise! On Friday we were planning on going on a date to the temple and my favorite Mexican restaurant. It was so cute, John knocked on the door and everything! We got in the car and he began driving to Idaho Falls. I though, hm mm, well theres a temple there too so OK. Then before we got off on an exit he had me close my eyes for a very long time. One point he got out and did something for a bit, but I was a good wife and kept my eyes closed. So we drove away and then I could open my eyes and he told the place we wanted to eat at was too packed and there was long wait. So we went to a go cart/ arcade place. That was so much fun. He beat me. After that he drove by the "packed" restaurant and it was pretty empty. I thought that was weird. So we ate and then after dinner he made me close my eyes one more time. I was thinking, " what about the temple, its getting late". Then he put something in my hand and I couldn't feel to see what it was. A few minutes later we parked and I opened my eyes to see hotel keys in my hand! He booked us a weekend in Idaho Falls!! It was so nice to relax and not have to worry about anything but having fun together. He impressed me so much by packing a suitcase for me too. He even packed my hair straightener! What a husband. We had a blast last weekend going to sites around the town we had never been to before, like the Idaho museum (it was awesome). I am so blessed to have John as my eternal companion and best friend! I wake up sometimes wondering how I got so lucky, but hey I can't complain. He is the best and I love him so much. Ok so that was my surprise weekend!!

Yellowstone Park

This weekend Stewart and Melissa came up from Utah and we drove through Yellowstone Park on our way to see the Miller's and Severns in Cody Wyoming. We had a blast seeing the beautiful landscape and all the animals. We saw tons of bison, as you will see they were right next to our car. We also saw a teenager black bear and lots of elk and deer. Canning Plum Jelly

There is a cute plum tree in the backyard where we live. So on Columbus Day my landlord came down and showed me how to can Plum Jelly. It was so much fun. I made two batches of it. I am not one for liking plums, but I have to say, its dang good. So here are the pictures of my first experiance canning. John and I will can a lot in the future I think.

The other day I told John that I swore I saw him sleeping with his eyes half open. Of course he said, "Nope". So we were watching a movie in bed 2 nights ago and I look over and he was snoring with his eyes very much half open! I caught him. But I wanted to make sure it was real, so I kept waving my hands in front of his eyes and no reaction came. After a minute I saw the cutest smile, the smile that says, "Ha ha ha I fooled you." We both bursted out laughing. He did it just to trick me. Then I thought, this is what life is all about...making eachother laugh so hard they cry or wet the pants...missing eachother so much you can't stand to be just one room away. The other day I read a really good book, "The Wednesday Letters". Before reading it, make sure you have a whole box of tissues ready. Its about a family who looses both parents, but finds all these letters the husband wrote to his wife every Wednesday of their entire marriage. The kids each had their own struggles in life, but reading the letters helps them in some way or another. That made me reflect on life and the things we shouldn't take for granite, our families especially. What would we do without our families? Who would we laugh with or fight with? Family is the glue thats holds our hearts together. Read it, I know you'll love it! It really makes you think about life and what your doing with your time here.

He has picked out some of the fabrics and helped design one of them. They are not perfect, but I learn new things each time I create one. I am so happy i've found this new hobbie.

The Begining!!

So.. I thought I would start a blog for our little family. I have to admit its much more fun than email. Our lives are really not that exciting right now so there is not much to write about. But here is what's happening. John and I are just working full time and the jobs we've been at for a year now. We love them! We will start school again in January, so for now we are enjoying our time off. Teaching primary is so much fun!! John is currently learning how to play the guitar. He is doing really well. I have picked up a new hobbie, making baby quilts! I've only made a few, but they get better with each one. We just celebrated our 1st year anniversary Sept. 8th. To wrap it up for tonight, the lil' Miller family is just wonderful and very much in love!!
